In August and September 2022, ACCESS Rwanda in cooperation with the Musanze Employment Centre, the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and GIZ organised stakeholder meetings to discuss current challenges regarding the employment of graduates from higher education institutions, internship and placement negotiations, information sharing and training and coaching students in subject-specific and generic competencies needed in the Musanze and Northern Province labour market. One of the key objectives for the area is to transform it into a tourism hub in the country.
The meeting participants, representing the public and private sectors as well as civil society mentioned service delivery as the main concern in all sectors, specifically in hotels and restaurants. They reiterated the need for skilled employees and the importance of close collaboration between businesses and other stakeholders. Academic and training institutions should work closer together to identify local skills gaps so that they can elaborate on professional skills training modules.
