The African Centre for Career Enhancement & Skills Support, or ACCESS, is an initiative of the University of Leipzig. We research about Africa’s increasing education at the same time as the stagnation of opportunities in the labor market and develop new teaching methods to strengthen the employability of African students. To do this, we work together with companies, universities and students.
In this way, we increase the opportunities of African students in the global labor market and connect them with companies that can benefit from their expertise.
We summarize our work in four different pillars. They describe our most relevant services and what ACCESS does.
For the education of Africa’s future thinkers, inventors and visionaries, we develop teaching concepts for lecturers and teachers. Using digital platforms to implement innovative employability learning processes, we facilitate the learning and coaching process for students and faculty.
With a focus on the third mission of higher education institutions, we pursue strengthening relationships between universities and the private sector. Our goal is to expand cooperation and knowledge exchange between stakeholders, thus creating a growing/enriching environment and new professional opportunities for African students.
In doing so, we focus on the development of organizational structures that adapt to the respective environment and its stakeholders.
How can we increase the employability of African students? This is what we are addressing in our research pillar at ACCESS. A doctoral program and a digital self-assessment tool shall help higher education institutions to better understand their strengths and weaknesses in terms of promoting employability among their students.
